Peace Corps Peru video

It's a long one.

Flight plans

Today I made my travel arrangements to fly to D.C. for my staging event.  I leave Detroit early Thursday 9/15 and Friday I leave D.C. for Peru!  The staging event is a time for final paperwork, vaccines, and a cram session about Peace Corps policies.  It's starting to feel real now.  Is is bad that I'm most worried about stuff like which shoes to pack and will there be toilet paper?  I should be more worried about projects and language skills, right?

absentee voter registration and property insurance...

Whew, I just mailed out my absentee voter registration.  I had put it off for around 3 months, but it turned out to be very easy.  I just printed a form from the FVAP (federal voting assistance program) website and mailed it to the Washtenaw county clerk office.  I decided against purchasing property insurance for my time in Peru, because I thought it was too much of a hassle.  The Peace Corps recommended insurance company calculated my annual premium to be $84 and I thought that was a little high considering that I only claimed $600 worth of stuff.  Instead I will just let myself not worry about loosing or breaking anything, because it is all totally replaceable.  It would stink to have to figure out how to replace some things from Peru, but I'm sure I could have things shipped for a price (a big one!).

I'm a proud uninsured voter.  Next hurdle is packing.

When I get worried about living in Peru for 2 years....

Girl Guides are Peruvian Girl Scouts
I want to go here!
From what I can tell hats seem to be very popular in Peru.
I learned about these in an archaeology class at U of M-plus they were featured in the most recent Indiana Jones movie. They are giant geoglyphs in the Peruvian desert.

Uncle Mike's Birthday!

The Vegas Barrie's are visiting so we got to have a party!  As always it was a loud, wild affair, and my father's belly button made a guest appearance.  It's really nice to have such fun family time before I leave for Peru.
