My name is Kate Barrie.  I am from Ann Arbor, MI.  I am 23 years old and I have known that I wanted to be in the Peace Corps since I was 15.  I had a teacher at Huron High School named Kent Overbey who served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Iran.  He told me and my classmates how his time in Iran changed his life and I've been hooked ever since.  Don't get me wrong I am very nervous about moving to Peru for 27 months; giving up my high speed internet, hot water, Colbert Report, Glamour magazine, peanut butter, and charmin ultra toilet paper is going to be difficult.  I am looking forward to challenging myself and growing stronger for my efforts.

I hope to use this blog as a way to keep my friends and family informed of what adventures and misadventures I may have in Peru.  With that being said, I would likewise love to receive updates about what's happening at home.  A girl can only go so long without hearing anything about the latest celebrity gossip or how U of M football is doing.  Although I'll being making new Peruvian family and friends, I still want to keep up with my American counterparts.
